Lights are flashing, fans are cheering, and the atmosphere is electrified. Everyone in the entire building is on their feet, except for one man, ad that man was only a few hours away from one of the biggest moments of his life.
The camera rolled through the back halls as the cheering slowly begin to fade away into the back, and soon enough the camera is in a large room where a lone man sits, wiping his face with a towel. The man throws the towel into a dark corner of the room as he looks up, running his hands through his hair. The man sits up, leaning back in his chair he looks to the roof and then straight in front of him. The man stands up from the shadows and his figure can barely be made out. Alexander ‘The Great’ looks to the camera and smirks his evil smirk that has barely been seen recently. It shows that Parise is ready, it shows that he isn’t scared, and that he won’t be holding back.
“So here we are, Scars and Stripes, FCW’s second pay per view, Jimmy Gimmick vs. Alexander ‘The Great’, one of the biggest nights of FCW’s history, and for the first time in a long time I can say this with a straight face; I don’t give a shit. I’m not worried about being able to put on a great match for the fans, I’m not worried about this being a huge night for the entire business, and most of all I’m not worried about facing my partner, Jimmy Gimmick.”
Parise smiles once again, and his smirk has already left the territory of being a welcome sight and it has become the usual evil self.
“You know I may not be the biggest bad-ass out there, and that doesn’t bother me, I may not be the nicest guy out there, and that pleases me, but I just enjoy watching others in pain. I don’t have to inflict it, it doesn’t have to be physical, but I just enjoy it. It makes me smile.”
Parise laughs, it echoes through the entire room, and the cameraman shivers as Parise continues, not able to stop. Finally he does and he looks into the camera with a smile on his face. He takes a step back so he is once again in shadows and only part of his face can be seen.
“This American system of ours….call it Americanism, call it capitalism, call it, what you like, gives to each and every one of us a great opportunity if we only seize it with both hands and make the most of it. Look at what I have in the short time that I’ve been here. The Intercontinental title and a shot at the FCW World Title; what does that tell you? It says that I make the most of every opportunity I’m given. I don’t wait. I don’t take anyone’s leftovers, and that’s why I am so successful. You know there’s just another person I want to address right now’ Edge. You see he tried to manipulate me, he tried to use me, but it didn’t work. I faced temptation and I won. You just couldn’t beat me Edge, and you never will. So you decided to jump ship, go back to Anarchy, why? Because you weren’t ready to compete with me and Gimmick, the best in the business.”
Parise shifts back into gear as he remembers what he is here to talk about, he cranes his neck and loosens up all his muscles as he shakes his hand through his hair once again.
“Jimmy, we’re partners, and I respect you, but we both want this title, and neither of us will hold back anything, so we might as well get that out of the way. We’re going to put on a show, a show like nothing that has ever been seen. We will go out into that ring, one on one, and the better man will win.”
Parise stares intently into the camera as he takes in a deep breath and then exhales; he does this again before continuing.
“Alexander ‘The Great’ once said “I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.” This isn’t really something that is hard to understand, but for all the absent-minded people out there what he meant was that you can’t just have a good army, you need a good leader, and….when I win the world title that’s what FCW will have, a true leader, someone who can represent this company and bring in more and more people, I will be this company’s savior, because everyone knows that when it comes down to it we don’t just need John Cena selling T-shirts and playing to the 6th graders, we need a wrestler, we need a leader, we need Alexander Parise.”
Parise smiles and walks around the room, being engulfed in darkness completely several times.
“There’s no better way this should have happened, Edge vs. Christian would have been too personal, they would have just been going after each other, anyone else it wouldn’t have had enough hype, it wouldn’t have been big enough to suffice for Requiems World Title to be decided for the first time, but us two, this will be the stuff for the legends. This will be what people talk about way in the future, the real rebirth of FCW, people will always ask each other if they know Original Sin, because nobody can match us a team, as individuals we rise above all else.”
Parise looks into the camera, feeling confident about his chances, feeling confident about everything.
“Now, everyone just relax for a moment, let your minds drift and listen to a story I would like to tell you. I do believe I mentioned this very briefly before, but here is the full story: In May 333 B.C. Alexander faced a crucial decision concerning his Persian conquests. Lacking reinforcements, his men ragged, and with Macedonia poverty stricken from funding his war effort, Alex waited near Gordian inspiration from the gods. Upon resolving to continue his campaign, Alex was halted by his personal seer just before leaving the city. To depart without attempting the Gordian Knot would cause bad luck to befall his armies. Alexander had to attempt the puzzle.”
Parise sits back down on his chair, stretching out his legs before leaning back. He places his hand under his chin as he leans his elbow on the arm rest.
“Making his way to the acropolis, Alexander was followed by a great crowd. Anxious, they gathered to see the great king struggle with their famed puzzle as all had before him. The townspeople were not disappointed. For nearly two hours Alex racked his brain for a solution. Finally, in a fit of frustration he asked of his advisors, "What does it matter how I loose it." He drew his sword and, in a single spinning flourish, sliced the Gordian Knot open to reveal the ends hidden inside. That night a wicked storm descended upon Gordium. Thunder raged and lightning crackled. Oracles and soothsayers gathered around. Alexander and the seers interpreted the storm as a sign that Zeus was pleased and would grant Alexander’s armies victory. The next day Alexander left Gordian and conquered the world.”
Parise finishes his story, and unlike his partner he sits and smiles, knowing what this means to him, knowing what it is to everyone else.
“Some of you may be wondering what this has to do with anything; well Alexander solved this puzzle by approaching it a new way. He was innovative. He was a thinker and a strategist, deserving of victory. Do you still ask what it has to do anything? Those qualities, in my mind, resemble me. I’ve been reading this story since I was a little kid, you know how everyone would want to hear the stories about Superman and Batman, well that wasn’t me, I just heard the stories of Alexander ‘The Great’, and soon enough everyone will hear the stories of Alexander ‘The Great’ Parise. Sometimes we as the human race can be satisfied; sometimes we can be happy, and after Scars and Stripes, I think we’ll all just be able to relax, after all it’s just one story at a time, right?”
Parise smirks as he spins around in his chair so the top of his head can barely be seen. He gets up and walks into the darkness, as the camera looks on into the darkness, Parise’s footsteps can barely be heard as the screen fades out.
