Part VIII: A Moment in Time
*A smile, that was the singular image the extreme close up camera angle of Jimmy Gimmick revealed. The toothy grin that has become all too famous around FCW of the alleged poster boy fills the screen of viewers watching at home. The camera pulls back to reveal Gimmick standing in his overly decorated personal office backstage in the FCW arena. He stands next to a clock which produces the slow ticks proving to be the only audible sound filling the room for the slightest of moments before…*
“A wedge is being driven through the heart of the Requiem Empire, at this very moment in which I address the audience. No drawn out introduction, no witty commentary on my irrelevant FCW colleagues just yours truly and this clock. Ticking constantly, no interruptions, no obstacles, in a constant progression.”
*Gimmick’s hand strokes dust from atop the nearby clock as he looks down to it his smile progressively fades. The expression and position of Gimmick changes, but his monotone voice he began speaking in continued unfazed.*
“After putting down ‘The Animal’ I am left with my greatest challenge, not in the form of disgruntled tag team partners Edge and Christian but with my pending encounter with my apprentice. Alas, at Scars and Stripes ‘Original Sin’ will have its fortitude put to the inevitable test with its members vying for the championship, a chance to have one of our names engraved into the history books forever, along with the legends.”
*Jimmy Gimmick now caresses the antique looking clock in his palms, refusing to turn his head to the camera, focusing solely on the ever turning hand.*
“Internal strife…”
*A forced laugh filled the room for a singular moment, before Gimmick cleared his throat and continued.*
“Such an insurmountable opposition it marked the fall of histories greatest empire. The violent reign of emperor Marcus Aurelius proved cause for internal rebellion within the Roman Empire. The subsequent reign of the son whom history has portrayed as incompetent: Commodus. You see Commodus was raised in the shadow of his father, who despite his tendencies to rule with violence, alternate imperfections, and even internal rebellion, was considered a marvelous ruler. When Commodus took to the throne it was expected to be more of the same however, what transpired was anything but…”
*A momentary pause as Gimmick slowly tilts his head up allowing his deep eyes to lock with the camera, all the while he runs his fingers feverishly across the clock.*
“Commodus’ attempts to succeed his father adequately as a ruler proved to only bring a heightened attention to his inequities; in fact some people go as far as to believe he was insane. This is a man so fascinated with violence that he thought to take to the gladiatorial games himself, history dictates that this ‘insane emperor’ went as far as to watch Rome burn, only to rebuild and rename it in his own honor. Rather than continue in the footsteps of his mentor he rebelled against his magnanimous rule in place of his own foolish conquest, this betrayer of sorts eventual met his fitting end strangled in his sleep, punished for all of his sins, and betrayals.”
*Gimmick finishes the story with a glare of child like wonder into the camera, the eerie stare remains for a moment before he shakes his head as if to snap himself out of the thought, immediately afterwords he finds himself returning his focus to the clock, which he continued to stroke with an eccentric satisfaction, while speaking absently.*
“The rule of Commodus marked the fall of Rome, a great civilization forced to deteriorate through a slow, painful death. However, when ‘Original Sin’ does encounter each other there will be a wrestling match, no internal strife, no deep rooted conflict, or betrayal, just a contest. Like the gladiators we will walk to the ring a fight of respect, honor, and glory.”
*The ticking suddenly stops, and Gimmick looks to the clock with such confusion it borders on bewilderment. He than turns to the camera, look of awe replaced by a cold stare.*
“Edge and Christian on the other hand, their conflict with each other is no secret, and the likelihood of competition is fleeting. Edge and Christian will experience their downfall on Requiem, whether they stand together or alone it doesn’t matter they all fall. For one to rise to immortality someone has to fall from grace now is the time for the former tag team champions to face their end. Edge and Christian your time in the spotlight is over, the curtains are closing, and people want the Original Sin encore, they’re sick of the tired out gimmicks you two have to offer. Running around the locker room trying to figure out who kidnapped a grown man, you belong in a college dorm not a FCW arena.”
*As if tired with his address Gimmick massages his scalp with his left hand, his eyelids briefly flutter as he speaks, his voice droning on in an uncharacteristically emotionless tone.*
“Tonight Christian and Edge bow at the feet of the greatest empire FCW has ever seen, and at Scars and Stripes rather than be torn apart, the dominating faction that is ‘Original Sin’ will only be strengthened.”
*Gimmick releases the single hand that still clutched the clock and the moment he does the ticking resumes, never ending, always progressing, and then…cut to black.*
