After Orton's angry outburst in his teammates' locker room, we can already identify the contrasting styles in this newly formed stable. Although all three men are arrogant, we can tell that Kendrick and Shelley are the more laidback goofballs while Randy is the disciplined athlete. While it could potentially pose some problems, the undeniable talent in their trio will ensure that they’ll be going places in the near future. With THE Brian Kendrick and Alex Shelley gunning for the Tag Team Championship, and Randy Orton having his sights set on the World Championship, their goals could very well be within reach if they make a lasting impression on the weekly shows. But before that can happen, The Legend Killer has suggested that the team needs to hit the gym a few times to hone their skills…
We come into view of a large private gym, with basically what you would expect to see in one. Weight sets, dumbbells, treadmills, you name it. It is at first not apparent why we’re getting exclusive footage of the interior, until we zoom in on a wrestling ring featuring Randy Orton, Alex Shelley and THE Brian Kendrick. They’re all in their wrestling gear, doing their usual warm-ups--- except for TBK. He’s standing in the corner with his arms crossed, slightly rolling his eyes. Still a bit disappointed Orton broke his X-box controller.
The Brian Kendrick: “You still owe me a new controller, Randy. That was not cool, man. Gaming is my hobby!”
Randy stops stretching and gets up to face Kendrick.
Randy Orton: “Don’t worry about your X-box whatever remote, Brian, your only ‘hobby’ should be wrestling. Now I don’t know why you guys play these childish video games in your free time, but in Defiance the only thing you should be doing on your spare time is enhancing your skills. I just want to make that clear.”
The Brian Kendrick: “Relax, we got this, Randy. We’re good enough as it is, greatness can’t be taught! It’s a way of life.”
Randy Orton: “So you’re confident that you can take me on?”
The Brian Kendrick: “I think I could hold my own, yeah. What do you have in mind?”
Randy Orton: “Well, if you think you’re so good, let’s put you to the test. A little practice match if you will. It’s not an official match, but that doesn’t mean I don’t expect 100% effort from you.”
The Brian Kendrick: “Sounds good!”
Shelley steps in between both men with a huge smile on his face.
Alex Shelley: “Nice! That’s so going on my paparazzi cam!”
Shelley hops out of the ring, as one of the personal trainers from ringside slides in to act as referee. We’re about to have a friendly contest over here. Once they are signaled to begin, Kendrick and Orton begin pacing around the ring. The two lock up, and go into a series of headlocks and armbars, Orton getting the early advantage with a side headlock. Brian pushes Randy into the ropes and lands a solid hip toss to put him in the driver’s seat. The two go back and forth with the submission maneuvers, both displaying their technical side. Orton and Kendrick break free from the holds and now we get a dose of Kendrick’s speedy ring-presence. He bounces off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and comes back with a spinning heel kick. Randy quickly gets to his feet and looks a bit shocked. He charges toward Kendrick, but TBK hits a drop toe hold and knocks the Legend Killer back to the mat with a low dropkick. He lifts him back up, but gets overpowered by Orton who attempts a vertical suplex. Kendrick squirms his way out of it and counters with a nice neckbreaker. He bounces off the ropes once more and goes for a crossbody, but gets caught in mid-air. Orton tries to powerslam him, however Kendrick manages to get out of it and counter with a Tornado DDT. TBK grabs him by the head, measures him up and capitalizes on the already groggy Randy with a sick enzuigiri! THE Brian Kendrick is getting pretty excited, and in his mind can unquestionably smell victory coming. He grabs Orton by the neck, and takes his good old time to set him up with his finisher. Kendrick poses for Shelley’s handheld device, and signals for the end. He runs up the turnbuckle and goes for the Sliced Bread… but gets caught in mid-air with a lethal RKO! Randy Orton looks below at Kendrick who nearly had it won. He offers his teammate a hand up.
Randy Orton: “I have to hand it to you, you almost had me. But you know where you went wrong? The showboating. No more of that, you never want to let your guard down. Other than that, good showing, but there’s room for improvement.”
Kendrick staggers his way out of the ring, holding his neck while Shelley snickers behind his camera.
