The 1 Year Anniversary Address
*The camera fades in to the scene of a large auditorium filled with reporters, camera flashes and murmuring fill the room. At the back of the auditorium the fans are situated, also murmuring quietly amongst themselves. The camera pans over the sea of reporters and fans to the front of the auditorium were a press conference like stage is set up. However, instead of the usual tables and chairs for superstars and staff to sit after speaking there stands a solitary podium. The backdrop for the conference is a series of small FCW logo’s covering the entire wall.
After a moment of the only sound being that of outspoken reporter’s loud discussions, and fans voicing their opinions on the topic of the conference, suddenly a darkly dressed figure emerges from the door leading onto the stage. As the figure paces closer to the podium it becomes clear who it is; C.E.O. and owner of Full Contact Wrestling R.M. Voglur.
The site of Voglur prompts various shouts from interviewers eager to gather information from the ever mysterious owner. Fans respond with a hushed mixed reaction, as Voglur stands at the podium and clears his throat, causing silence to fall upon the auditorium in seconds.*
“One year ago today Full Contact Wrestling changed the face of the sports entertainment world forever. This was done with a single broadcast their opening edition of Monday Night RAW. Last week fans around the world witnessed a night of exciting action once again this time in the form of the premiere episode of Anarchy. Over the course of the year FCW has found itself immortalized by some, hated by others, yet revered by all. We carry on that legacy here in Redemption despite superstar rebellions, management incompetence, even a period of complete inactivity thanks to the organization going under. I have restored FCW just in time for it to reach the point in that we are at today, one year after its initial televised broadcast. One year after Full Contact Wrestling revolutionized the industry, we do so in innovative new ways and I hope we can continue to do so in the coming weeks, months, even years.”
*R.M. Voglur takes a sip from his water bottle, as fans and interviewers murmuring resumes, this time with a clearly positive overtone. Flashes begin to fill the auditorium, and interviewers begin asking questions loudly once more. However, the crowd is quickly silenced as Voglur raises a single hand and the air prompting silence to resume as though he has an unspoken control over the people. Voglur places his water bottle onto the podium fastening the lid before continuing.*
“With that I would like to say good evening ladies and gentlemen, all who attended please join me in the celebration of FCW’s one year anniversary. Now many of you may wonder why I seem to have been so elusive since I revived this organization, and allow me to cite a famous political figure by declaring ‘the world will not long remember what we say here, but it will never forget what they did here.’ My stake in this organization, as many have been inquiring to, or my fascination with this company will in time fade to irrelevance, and in a business where we work to create history, irrelevant events can not be dwelled upon.
It is only through our organizations ability to ignore the insignificant, and focus on the future that we have been able to attain this much sought after redemption, and reach a point from which stability, growth, and prosperity are all within arms reach. Our aim is to reach a state of perpetual change, to remain contemporary within the professional wrestling industry in order to reach the top of the mountain once more. The state of change is what has driven mankind to its state to day, Martin Luther King Jr. once declared; '[c]hange does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.' And work is what we will do, it is only through our determination, and sacrifice that we can hope to achieve greatness once again."
*R.M. Voglur’s right hand is visibly twitching as a pack of cigarettes is clear in his suit’s pocket. He raises his hand slowly towards them stopping, and forcing his hand back to podium, a patch can be seen on his neck as he does. Voglur continues speaking as though no event had occurred.*
“Despite how I seek to redeem this organization I will not deny that I have in fact some self serving ulterior motives. For instance I am first and foremost a business man; I would not have bought out FCW if I did not think I could turn this company profitable. I will not deny I may have selfish qualities after all I am only human, or at least that is what they will tell you. The title of our flagship program actually strikes me as a tad ironic, given the fact I will always be under firm control of the inner workings of this organization, whether I make my presence known or not is entirely up to me. My elaboration on the control of this organization is imply that
I will decide how FCW functions; the fans will cheer when I decide I want them to, and boo accordingly.”
*Voglur raises his hand into the air almost appearing as a conductor, while the fans begin to boo R.M.V.’s talk of complete control.*
“I stand before you as the ruler of FCW, I arrived at the pile of ashes, the sunken ship, and any other piece of symbolic imagery you’d like to use, and conquered it. In my lifetime I have surpassed the achievements that would define any man, women, or child in this world, so why deem me a mortal. Why not praise me, and revere me as a God? I am a God fearing man do not let this confuse you, I worship only one God but that doesn’t mean you have to. This crusade of mine has resulted in the event by which I came, I saw, and I conquered this wrestling organization, and the entire sports entertainment empire will soon bow to my feet.”
*The booing grows louder Voglur appears unfazed, even unattached from the fans whom he claims control over. R.M.V. once again reclines his head while taking a long sip from his water bottle as the boos continue directed towards the apparently God-like FCW owner.*
“’I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live’ Jesus was said to have gathered fame through his miracles, the most profound and convincing of these was the resurrection of a dead; Lazarus. Full Contact Wrestling was dead, it had fallen from grace, and from the mountain’s summit I looked down and used all my strength all of my Biblical power to pull FCW from its point on the ground. Full Contact Wrestling was dragged up the side of the figurative mountain by yours truly, and here I stand trying to finish the job, trying to reach the end of our long road to redemption.”
*R.M. Voglur raises his right hand to the side of his neck and slowly begins to peel off the white patch, as he continues to speak.*
“This is a time of celebration, but lest we forget who allowed this historic one year anniversary. I give you people the show of a lifetime each week, I have brought together a show to entertain and change the entire professional wrestling culture and all I ask in return is the treatment I have earned. I know not when I will see the public next it may be tomorrow, it may be next week, you may never publicly hear from R.M. Voglur again, all you need do in exchange for witnessing history over and over again is to worship the initials R.M.V. And thus I leave you with a quote, one which can be interpreted however you choose to do so.”
*R.M. Voglur opens a large book upon the podium and looks down, not to the book on first glance however, as he reaches into his pocket removing a solitary cigarette which he lights. R.M.V. raises the lit cigarette accompanied by a trail of smoke and places it in between his now curled lips. After a moment he removes the cigarette and looking to the book beneath him he recites:*
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
The 23 Psalm.”
*R.M. Voglur closes the Bible before him and carries it in his left hand, while returning the cigarette to his mouth with the other before turning and slowly walking across the stage, to the door. Interviewers shout questions, fans boo and jeer, but Voglur walks on unaffected, and in moments the camera had captured the final shot of Voglur; clad in his expensive suit, hair combed over, and a trail of smoke following behind him as he closes the door behind him perhaps never to be heard from again.*
