*Gimmick’s eyes carefully watched the rear view mirror, he would be here at any moment, but why today? Why so close to Gimmick’s chance to achieve immortality? He hadn’t spoken to him in almost 5 years, the only time he had seen this man was at the hospital parking lot, fitting than that this be there designated meeting place. Gimmick’s car remained parked just floors below what would likely become the death bed of his father R.M. Voglur. He had received a phone call telling him about this meeting from the man whom he was about to speak to, it was nothing more than the location at which he was supposed to meet and a time. The only reason he followed the cryptic message was because he recognized the voice, it remained even after all these years unmistakable. Gimmick looked down to the analog clock in his car it flashed 3:33 he should be here this was the oddly chosen time, as Gimmick raises his head his eyes revert back to the rear view mirror and now a man stands in his behind the vehicle. Gimmick opens the car door and steps out drawing himself to full height as he turns and sees the man who called him.*
“Right on time.”
*Gimmick called out, no answer, the man was silent as expected he wasn’t much of a talker. He stood there clad in a black trench coat, in the shadows cast by a nearby stone pillar in the underground parking lot. His features were indistinguishable, movement on his behalf was non-existent. Gimmick approached him and stood roughly 3 feet in front of the concealed man.*
“You called?”
*A stiff nod proved barely visible from the shadows as the man remained silent.*
“About?”
*Gimmick knew better than to trust this man, he knew he led a life of lies, and after five years without communication between the two they were like strangers, making the nature of this meeting even more mysterious.*
?-“I'm here to provide you with information regarding Voglur.”
*So many questions ran through Gimmick’s head upon mention of his father’s name, after all it was the focus of his thoughts for so long now, despite his public assurances to the contrary, what kind of information about Voglur? The timing of this remained absurd to Gimmick, he didn’t want to deal with this man this week, let alone his father.*
“He’s dying what more could I possibly need to know?”
*He wished he could see the man’s face hearing only his rough deep tone wasn’t enough for Gimmick to find anything more revealing about his speech than the scarce words he spoke.*
?-“He plans to contact you, when he does it will be more than a social visit despite what his request may indicate.”
*The man concealed by shadows was almost the complete opposite of Gimmick he spoke slowly in a quiet voice, the only thing these two had in common was that they both stood in the dimly lit parking lot.*
“What’s that supposed to mean? How about you stop wasting my time talking in your cryptic bullshit single sentences of dialogue and tell me whatever it is you called me here about.”
*Gimmick advanced towards the figure in the shadows who matched his progression forward with a series of steps deeper into the shadows and away from Gimmick.*
?-“I chose to give you this warning of my own accord, I decide what I will tell you and you will listen.”
*Gimmick was flustered, a fact he hoped the shadows would hide, he wanted to respond, he wanted to verbally berate him like he did everyone else, but he knew this man, he knew his words wouldn’t faze him, if he even listened at all. Furthermore, his curiosity had been aroused he wanted to know the subject of this meeting, but he couldn’t let the man know that he held all the cards.*
“How do I know I can trust you? It’s been five years.”
?-“What does the time matter? You remain the same spoiled, rich, cynical homosexual you were when I saw you last.”
“You remain the duplicitous, self serving equivocator I once knew, the only difference is now you’re hiding in the shadows, so I guess some things never change. I’m tired of trying to make deals with the devil.”
*No sooner had the words left his mouth than Gimmick’s suit was being used to send him crashing back first into the stone pillar. The mystery man held him by the collar of his shirt against the stone, Gimmick attempted to fight back but he knew it was an exercise in futility this wasn’t the kind of guy you got the better of in a fist fight.*
?-“You will either trust my words or I will cease speaking them.”
*Gimmick grunted still trying to escape the grasp of the man who had him pinned to the wall, yet each of his movements was blocked almost effortlessly by his informant of sorts. Conceding defeat in this struggle Gimmick grunted before the man’s pressure driving Gimmick into the stone elicited a response.*
“Alright tell me.”
*Resigning to defeat Gimmick uttered the words which were responded to by his release from the spot against the stone pillar. The man slowly lurked back into the shadows, Gimmick had caught the slightest glimpse of him when his back was grinding against the rock, and seen only his piercing eyes. The absence of a verbal response by the man was agitating the ever impatient Gimmick.*
“I need to know.”
*Gimmick blurted the words without thinking but after a moment of silence save for the panting of Gimmick from the prior struggle they were met with a response.*
?-“Voglur is dying slowly and painfully, and being the affluent dastardly invertebrate that you have antagonized for so many years he wants to escape his fate.”
*Gimmick stood almost to stunned to speak, he knew where this was going yet a part of him refused to believe it, he wished he could remain ignorant, ignore the man who stood in the shadows before him, ignore the imminent phone call from his father, he couldn’t face what was next.*
?-“Your father is going to ask you to kill him.”
*The words were blunt, they were cold, and they were all too real. He wanted to tell himself the man before him was a liar, yet somehow he knew the words he spoke now were the truth.*
?-“And James, when you’re in Hell you have to deal with devils.”
*With that the man turns and walks from the parking lot remaining to the shadows and as suddenly as he had appeared he was now gone. Gimmick stood in the empty parking lot just below the building that now housed his father, the man he was supposed to kill.*
